Getting my nips pierced was a trial. I got my navel and both nips pierced all at the same time. I chose to be pierced with PTFE rods with acrylic end balls. I chose these materials because they are non-metallic and I was concerned I may have to get medical testing, such as a MRI or Xray, the next week or so.
My problem was an inexperienced piercer. Here's the lesson of the day... never believe anyone who says they can pierce just because they have a kit and do tattoos. This guy soaked my materials in alcohol. I didn't know but this makes acrylic break. 3 of 4 of my end balls broke either while putting them on or just before. I had extras that hadn't been soaked, so I put those on to save the pierces.
Then the guy tells me the acrylic broke because it was crappy material. Sadly enough I believed him at the moment and complained to the fine people here at Painful Pleasures. Grrr. Embarrassing.
Back to the story... He gets the rods in my nips and then I had to put the end balls on myself. OK, look, I've never been pierced, it hurt like hell, my hands are shaking with adrenaline... the last thing I want to do is put them on myself. But I did and spent the next couple of days wondering if they would stay or if I would lose my piercings by them coming off. By the time I fould that the medical testing wasn't needed, I couldn't wait to get something more solid in there.
My piercer told me exactly what to do to change the barbells out. I knew that it would be risky. So that night, about 2 days after they were pierced I decided to change them out for surgical stainless steel. Problem was that the acrylic beads had become one with the PTFE rods. Here I had been afraid they were going to pop off any second and I couldn't get them unscrewed! The PTFE bent and twisted inside the fresh piercings as I tried to unscrew the beads... painful. I finally got them loose but I was afraid I'd jerk or something and pull out the rod. Luckily I had enough control and was able to push the old jewelry out with the new.
After their rough start, the pierces are doing well. They're still healing now and I look forward to enjoying them more in the future. The other half to this story I will post in the navel story section. (Bad initial piercing there.) The moral of the story is: never believe anyone, even if they're very experienced in tattooing, when they say they can get the job done. I thought this guy was a professional and I was clearly wrong. I'm lucky that something more heinous didn't happen to me. Go to a shop; get it done right!
