Well, I must admit. Usually, I think about a mod long and hard before I get it - not this one. I was just sitting around one day with my two best friends, and decided "Hey, let's go get my tongue pierced" - Best decision of my life.
We drove to my favorite piercing studio (which just happens to be where I work), and I talked to Darren, the piercer there. Anyone who talks to him can tell right away that he knows what he's talking about when it comes to piercings.
We go into the piercing room, and he hands me a cup of mouthwash. After I gargle and spit back into the cup, he dumps the cup, and puts his gloves on. After inspecting the anatomy of my mouth, he marked off my placement, and handed me a mirror. I have to tell you, the initial placement was perfect, and totally accentuated the anatomy. So, I nodded in agreement.
Even though I work there, and know how all of the needles and barbells come and are sterilized, he made it a point to still show me the needle packaging and the barbell packaging. He even made it a point to tell me how to hold my tongue, even though I had PERFORMED that very same piercing before.
I must admit, the reason I was scared before I got this piercing is BECAUSE of my clients on the piercing table. Well, I now officially think that most of my clients are...well, babies...because I barely felt the needle going through. Within 2 minutes, the needle had gone through, the barbell was in, and I was out front talking with Darren.
It was definitely the most scary, but yet the best piercing experience I ever had.
As a followup, I went back two weeks later to get a second opinion on whether or not I should go to a shorter barbell. He was in agreement that anything more than 1/8" smaller than what I had would be unhealthy, and we tried the 3/4" barbell. Well, that didn't work out too well, but we had a freshly autoclaved 7/8", and that was perfect
I am now gauging to a 10 in my tongue, and feel great with it in. Definitely a piercing (and a piercing shop (shameless plug)) that I would recommend to anyone.
