Description:
|
after about 10 years of wanting my nostril pierced, one ex-husband who strongly disapproved of the idea and a new husband who wasn't crazy about the idea (he's anti-piercing, but has ink -- go figure!) but loves me enough to not prevent me from doing something i really want to do, i finally got my nostril pierced.
i decided to do my right nostril since i have 6 holes in my left ear (three lobe, three helix -- i also have three lobes in the right ear) and i didn't want another hole on the left side (even though i have a bizarre "preference" for my left side).
i chose a local branch of the studio for which my ink artist works -- even though i knew he wouldn't be doing the piercing, i still felt comfortable with that particular studio.
in the past, i've run into piercers who seem to be condescending or judgemental towards people who want nostril piercings. i guess because it's such a popular choice and it isn't "hardcore" enough for them... thankfully, my piercer at Atomic Tattos (West Waters Ave. location in Tampa, FL), Mark, was very nice and didn't have an attitude at all.
the piercing itself was, i admit, more painful than i expected. after nine earholes and a navel ring, i figured the nostrili would be easy. i think in my excitement i forgot to take my deep breath and exhale during the piercing, actually. all in all, the pain was moderately intense for a few minutes, then went away. there was very little blood and virtually no swelling. since the shop was running a special, the supply of studs was limited, and i ended up with a pink gem nostril screw.
after a couple days, i started to develop "the Bump" (of the Hypertrophiv variety), albeit very minor. i stopped by the shop to have Mark take a look. he confirmed the Bump and recommended vitamin E lotion -- not oil.
then, a week later, the stone fell out of the stud! i stopped by the shop again today and Mark changed the stud to a new one with a clear stone. probably not the best idea for a fresh piercing only a little over a week old, but i didn't want to walk around with a ghetto-ass broken stud for several weeks! removing the initial screw wasn't painful at all, but putting the new one in definitely was not comfortable -- though not NEARLY as bad as the original piercing. a little blood, a little swelling, and i'm good to go. this stud actually fits better (i guess the screw is curved differently) and sits flatter against my skin, so i'm very happy, especially since i wanted a clear stone to begin with. Mark and i had discussed at first that although it's best to wait 6 - 8 weeks to change the jewelry, he would check it at 3 weeks to see if it was ready. guess i got a jump on that!
i'm keeping up with my chamomile sea salt soaks, and i've already ordered new jewelry from Painful Pleasures in anticipation of my fully healed nostril hole.
i'm insanely happy with the piercing! my husband (also a Mark) admitted that he does think it looks good on me. my manager at work finally noticed it and i assured her that once it heals, i'll wear a clear retainer at the office (although she didn't ask me to do so).
