I have wanted to get my tongue pierced since 6th grade. The reason I never did was not because I was afraid of it hurting, but because of the scandal it would cause at home when I returned with a lisp.
Well, I finally thought to myself, "I'm 18. F(orget) my parents. I'm getting my tongue ring." I called up one of my best friends and asked her if she could take me to the local tattoo parlor on her spare time.
When I walked in, I was in heaven. I've never seen so many different piercings in my life. I immediately saw myself walking over to the barbells. Although I had a tongue ring in mind already, I wanted to see if he had it in the store already so I didn't have to order it online and wait a week or so. Sadly, I found out that I would get a surgical steel one for my first time.  Oh, well.
I did the paperwork in a flash. I was so hyped about it all. My friend was more nervous than I was. When it was time to do the actual piercing, I jumped on the chair and opened my mouth, the guy (he was cute as hell by the way) told me to stick my tongue out as much as I could and he then dried it with a paper towel. I closed my eyes just in case I would chicken out. I didn't trust myself. I was determined to leave the store that day with my tongue ring. It felt like he was marking my tongue, then I felt a small prick. I initially thought it was the tip of a pen... but then I felt him screwing in the barbell. He was still holding my tongue when I said, "Dad's id?". lol. I've had mosquito bites that hurt more.
My tongue did swell a considerable amount over the next few days. But now, over a week later, it's back to it's normal size. I think I lost almost 5 lbs. For almost a week my meal plan consisted of Campbell's soups and Slim Fast.
And to my surprise, I never had the slightest lisp... other than the occasional mispronounced word like "world".
My only complaint has been a slight irritation to the bottom of my tongue. But it only lasted a couple of hours.
